It has Original Side jurisdiction for the City of Chennai and Appellate Side jurisdiction state-wide. Tenancy follows the Tamil Nadu Regulation of Rights and Responsibilities of Landlords and Tenants Act, 2017; stamp duty the Indian Stamp Act with Tamil Nadu amendments. The State has a separate Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The TNREAT (Tamil Nadu Real Estate Appellate Tribunal) and the TN-RERA operate from Chennai.
